Greyhound Chip ID operates a Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) compliant database under the Microchipping of Cats and Dogs (England) Regulations 2023. These regulations require that all dogs are microchipped and that the microchip code and prescribed information pertaining to the dog is recorded on a DEFRA compliant database.

Rehomed & Retired Greyhounds

To rehome a retired greyhound, complete the GBGB Retirement form

Greyhound name to be recorded (not pet name). Chip code must be recorded. Section B to be completed by Retired Greyhound Trust or other animal charity. Section C to be completed by new individual keeper of the greyhound.

Anyone wishing to transfer the microchip details from Greyhound Chip ID UK to another registered Microchip database should contact that database directly. On the GBGB retirement form record a note in the ‘additional comment’ box to the effect you wish to transfer to whatever database.
